July 8 is Coca Cola Day

Posted on July 8, 2025

Observed on May 8, National Have A Coke Day is a holiday with a simple goal—it’s a day on which people are encouraged to grab a Coca-Cola and spend some time with friends and family. It’s as simple as that.

Of course, if a person doesn’t drink carbonated soft drinks, then they’re probably not going to want to celebrate this holiday. For those who do want to celebrate, we present some important information that all of our readers can use as inspiration for their own Coca-Cola-related celebrations.

The History Of Coca-Cola

Having been unable to uncover the history of this holiday, we went ahead and uncovered the history of Coca-Cola. This carbonated soft drink was first invented on May 8th, 1886, when Doctor John Pemberton sold the very first glass of the beverage to his customers at Jacob’s Pharmacy.

Jacob’s Pharmacy was located in Atlanta, Georgia, and Dr. Pemberton sold on average nine Coca-Colas a day for every day of the first year after first selling it.

Unfortunately, Dr. Pemberton never actually had much success with his drink, so over several years, he decided to sell parts of his business to various business partners. In 1888, he eventually sold the remaining piece of his business to Asa G. Candler.

Candler was an experienced businessman and recognized the potential of this drink better than Dr. Pemberton. As a result, he bought up all of the remaining rights to Coca-Cola and eventually gained full control of it.
