On July 16, 2025, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) was contacted by an individual who reported a 36-year-old male, Wayne Sawyer, was contacting a 16-year-old child through different social media platforms.
It was reported that Sawyer was having conversations with the minor that were sexual in nature. JCSO investigators began an undercover operation and started communicating with Sawyer using various investigative techniques. On July 18, 2025, Sawyer set up a meeting with who he believed was the minor child.
Deputies and investigators arrived at the predetermined location and found Sawyer waiting for the minor child he thought he had been communicating with.
Sawyer was taken into custody without incident. Sawyer is being charged with two counts of Solicitation of a Child (3rd Degree Felonies), and one count of Traveling to Meet a Minor (2nd Degree Felony).
