The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office recently participated in the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Traffic Safety Challenge—an annual event sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation. This event brings together law enforcement agencies from across the state to highlight achievements in traffic safety and share best practices.
Participation in this program enhances our deputies’ skills and reinforces proven strategies for enforcing traffic laws and keeping our communities safe. JCSO deputies took part in hands-on training, presentations, lectures, and practical challenges. Sheriff Edenfield and the JCSO remain committed to continuous training in order to lead in all areas of law enforcement and better serve the citizens of Jackson County.
During the training symposium, the JCSO was honored by the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Program for its outstanding efforts in traffic safety. Between 2023 and 2024, Jackson County saw a 44% decrease in fatal traffic crashes, a 35% reduction in distracted driving incidents, and a more than 15% drop in crashes involving impaired drivers.
In the words of Sheriff Edenfield: “Those are not just numbers. Those are lives saved.”
These achievements were made possible through proactive patrols, increased law enforcement presence on our roads, and the successful implementation of the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Teen Driver Challenge program. Sheriff Edenfield and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office remain steadfast in their mission to ensure every driver gets home safely.
