On August 21, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers with the Marianna, Florida Police Department responded to the Marianna Probation and Parole Office in reference to a vehicle being left unattended in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers learned the vehicle had been reported stolen from Cottondale, Florida. Witnesses advised that a male subject exited the vehicle and provided a description of his clothing.
Prior to receiving the call, an officer had observed a subject matching that description near the intersection of Clinton Street and Jefferson Street. Officers canvassed the area and located an individual at Madison Street Park matching the description provided by witnesses.
As officers made contact, the subject began reaching toward his waistband and refused to comply with commands. Officers attempted to detain him, at which point he attempted to flee on foot. Officers grabbed the subject as he ran, but he resisted by swatting officers in an attempt to break their grip. After a brief struggle and foot pursuit, officers were able to gain control and restrain the subject.
The subject sustained minor injuries while fleeing and was transported to Jackson Hospital for treatment. He was treated and released. No officers were injured during the incident.
During the investigation, the subject provided officers with a false name and date of birth.
His true identity was later confirmed as Nathan Howard Hicks. Officers determined that Hicks was an escapee from a juvenile detention facility in Dothan, Alabama.
Hicks was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Panama City, Florida, where he awaits his first appearance on charges related to this incident. Hicks will later be extradited to Houston County, Alabama, to answer for his escape charges.
