Barbara P. James, 91 of Chipley, Florida passed from this life on August 23, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on May 3, 1934, in Corning, New York, to Seymore Ames Purdy and Madeline Martin. She had been a resident of Washington County since 1977, having relocated from New Port Richey, Florida. A devoted member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Chipley, Barbara was also a proud graduate of Cazenovia College in New York, having attended before the school became co-educational. She had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in gardening. Barbara was also an active supporter of the Spanish Trail Playhouse and took pleasure in distributing flyers throughout downtown Chipley.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Seymore and Madeline Martin; sister: Mary “Molly” Pearse.
She is survived by her sons: Jeffrey James of Wausau, FL, Michael James (Kim) of Idaho; daughters: Dana Purdy James- Strait (Jeffrey of Chipley, FL, Kimberly Reynolds of Montana; grandchildren: Devon James, Colby James, Tyler James, Kayla James, Erik James.
Memorialization will be by cremation Obert Funeral Home and Whispering Pines Crematory of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.
