In April 2025, The Houston County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into identifying an offender responsible for disseminating child pornography throughout various social media platforms. Our team of ICAC Investigators have spent the last four months combing through electronic evidence.
On August 26, 2025, our investigators executed a Search Warrant on Pitts Drive in the Bay Springs Community. The search rendered the collection of multiple electronics devices. In addition we were able to locate Billy Mooney a resident of our targeted location.
Billy Mooney (65) was arrested and charged with seven (7) counts of Disseminating/Possession of Child Pornography. He was booked into the Houston County Jail held on bonds totaling $210,000.
It should also be noted that Mr. Mooney is a registered Sex Offender in Houston County from a 1998 conviction.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office will utilize all resources at our disposal to ensure those that exploit children will be identified and held accountable.
