Tropical Wave in Eastern Atlantic Likely to Become Hurricane Gabrielle

Posted on September 4, 2025

The tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic is likely to become our next hurricane of the season.

It’s dealing with dust at the moment, but I expect it to slowly organize as it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic this week.

By this weekend, it will encounter warmer water which will give it a shot in the arm. Interests in the Leeward Islands should closely monitor the progress of this disturbance, as it could pass nearby the first half of next week.

The good news is this is moving slowly and there’s plenty of time to watch. It’s the peak of hurricane season, so folks in the Islands should be prepared regardless. Long term, this is still over 10 days away from the United States, if it ever gets here.

Just a note too from posts I’ve seen on social, it’s way too early to write this off as a fish storm. I’ll keep an eye on it but this is a friendly reminder that it’s the peak of hurricane season and now is a good time to review your hurricane supplies and plan.

Ignore social media hype posts, as there’s no forecast skill beyond 7 days. Next name on the list is Gabrielle.
