JR was born on January 30, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to J.T. and Fannie (Helms) Strickland. He was a 1972 graduate of Vernon High School where he played football and later earned his A.S. degree from Chipola College. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Paratrooper.
He went on to enjoy a successful career in the construction industry and retired from Brasfield & Gorrie. Beyond his work, JR’s greatest joy was his family. He loved them deeply and will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and the love he gave to those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Pamela Lynn Strickland; his brother, Edward Strickland; and his brother-in-law, Paul Moore.
He is survived by his children, Zachary Tyler Strickland and Haley Morgan Strickland; two brothers, Jerry Strickland and wife Nina, and DeWayne Strickland and wife Monica; one sister, Barbara Ann Moore; and his sister-in-law, Sandy Strickland. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Chipley, Florida, with Bro. Bobby Pletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebro City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service.
