Chipley, Florida Police Department Arrests James Willie Davis for Felony Firearm, Tampering, Etc.

At approximately 2:30 AM on September 5, 2025, the Chipley Police Department received a report of a shooting near the intersection of Bennett Drive and Coggin Avenue. Officers responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

Two individuals involved in the incident were identified and interviewed. During the investigation, officers recovered .40 caliber shell casings in the roadway and on top of a vehicle belonging to one of the individuals, James Willie Davis. The shell casings found in both locations were confirmed to be a match.

Mr. Davis admitted to discharging a pistol from his vehicle at the other individual and subsequently discarding the weapon. As a convicted felon, Mr. Davis is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Following the investigation, James Willie Davis was arrested and charged with the following:

Florida Statute 790.15(2): Discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of any person.

Florida Statute 790.23(1)(a): Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Florida Statute 918.13(1)(a): Tampering with evidence.
