Florida Department of Transportation Issues Central Panhandle Traffic Advisory

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in the Central Panhandle area as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

Bay County:

  • U.S. 98 Widening from Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street – Beginning Monday, Oct. 13, U.S. 98 westbound drivers between Mandy Lane and Pier Park Drive will be shifted north to newly constructed travel lanes. The shift is scheduled to be in place by Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 6 a.m. This shift will allow crews to continue working to widen the roadway to six travel lanes. In addition, Nautilus Street, south of U.S. 98 (Panama City Beach Parkway), will remain closed through Tuesday, Oct. 14, to allow construction crews to install new drainage pipes beneath the intersection. Motorists may use Hills Road and Front Beach Road as a detour route. The closure will not impact travel lanes along U.S. 98. Appropriate signage will be in place to direct drivers safely through the work zone. 
  • State Road (S.R.) 390 Bridge Rehabilitation over Mill Bayou – S.R. 390 drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures between Brook Forest Drive and Cato Road, Thursday, Oct. 16 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be installing girders for the new bridge. Traffic flaggers, escort vehicles and signage will be in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone.
  • U.S. 98 (15th Street) Resurfacing from east of the 23rd Street Flyover to Jenks Avenue – Drivers may encounter the following traffic impacts:
    • Intermittent nighttime lane closures beginning Monday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 19 for median construction and signalization activities.
    • East and Westbound drivers will encounter lane closures within the median at the signalized intersections from Molitor Avenue to Baltimore Avenue beginning Monday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 19.
  • U.S. 231 at Pipeline Road Improvement Project – Drivers will encounter intermittent and alternating lane closures on North Pipeline Road, Sunday, Oct. 12 through Friday, Oct. 17 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be installing drainage structures. In addition, the U.S. 231 median at Pipeline Road is closed. Drivers needing to cross U.S. 231 should proceed past the closed median and use established crossovers at either Cato Road or Lindsey Crossing.
  • DuPont Bridge Replacement Project – Drivers may encounter intermittent and alternating lane closures on U.S. 98 between Oak Shore Drive and the DuPont Bridge Sunday, Oct. 12 through Saturday, Oct. 18 for utility relocation work. In addition, the westbound right turn lane onto Oak Shore Drive is temporarily closed as crews perform utility relocation work.
  • S.R. 390 Routine Utility Maintenance from West 17th Street and Kentucky Avenue in Lynn Haven – Motorists will encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 31 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for routine utility maintenance.
  • S.R. 22 Routine Utility Maintenance at Hugh Thomas Road in Callaway – Motorists will encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 through Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for routine utility maintenance.

Jackson County:

  • S.R. 166 (Caverns Road) Resurfacing from Chipola River Bridge to S.R. 71 – Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Sunday, Oct. 12 through Thursday, Oct. 16 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.
  • S.R. 2 Routine Utility Maintenance from College Drive to Smokey Road – Motorists will encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 24 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for routine utility maintenance.

Holmes County:

  • Howell Williams Road Bridge Replacement over Tenmile Creek – Motorists may encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 17 for construction activities.
  • U.S. 90 Routine Utility Maintenance from S.R. 79 (Waukesha Street) to Sieg Lane – Motorists may encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 through Monday, Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for routine utility maintenance.

Washington County:

  • S.R. 77 Resurfacing from South S.R. 273 (Campbellton Highway) to the Jackson County Line – Motorists will encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Sunday, Oct. 12 through Thursday, Oct. 16 from 6 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. for paving operations.
  • S.R. 77 Widening from Bay County Line to north of Moss Hill Road – S.R. 77 northbound and southbound drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures beginning Monday, Oct. 13 through Monday, Oct. 20 at the intersection of Spring Pond Road and County Road 279 (Moss Hill Road). The lane closures are necessary for crews to complete construction activities within the area. Advanced warning signs, traffic control devices, and traffic flagmen will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
  • S.R. 277 Bridge Rehabilitation over Hard Labor Creek – Motorists will encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 17 for construction activities.
  • S.R. 273 Routine Utility Maintenance from Davis Street to Martin Luther King Drive – Motorists will encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 and Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for routine utility maintenance.
  • U.S. 90 Routine Utility Maintenance from 2nd Street to S.R. 277 – Motorists will encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 13 through Monday, Oct. 20 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for routine utility maintenance.

All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to pay attention to the reduced speed limit when traveling through the construction area, to watch for construction equipment entering and leaving the roadway, and to use caution when driving through the work zone. Speeding fines double when workers are present.
