Chipley’s Blue Star Marker has stood mostly unnoticed at Florida Department of Transportation.
The marker was installed on April 26, 1961 in front of FDOT, but construction caused it to be relocated in the parking lot on April 14, 1977. It’s just 1 of over 3,300 spread out across the United States.
Recently, thanks to the efforts of Chipley Garden Club’s Veterans Affairs Committee Co-Chairs Stacy & Mike Hansen, Florida Department of Transportation, and the City of Chipley, the marker was relocated to a more prominent site – still on Highway 90, but directly in front of Chipley City Hall.
A red and white rose bed, an irrigation system, and solar lights were also installed.
A Rededication Ceremony took place on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2025, as see in these images by Photography students from Florida Panhandle Technical College.
