Posted on August 17, 2025

On August 9, 2025, Chipley Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford Escape in the area of Main Street and 5th Street. The vehicle pulled into the CVS parking lot, where officers made contact with the driver, a female, and a male passenger, both of whom were found to have suspended driver’s licenses. Due to a Florida Authorities Seize Tag order, the vehicle’s tag was subject to seizure, and the driver was issued a citation for unknowingly driving with a suspended license.

Following the issuance of the citation, the driver consented to a search of the vehicle. During the search, officers located a glass smoking device with methamphetamine inside a backpack on the passenger floorboard, a clear plastic baggie containing methamphetamine under the passenger seat, and another baggie with methamphetamine inside a coin purse under the driver’s seat. Additionally, a glass smoking device with methamphetamine, wrapped in a green bandana, was found concealed behind the driver’s belt buckle. Field tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in all items.

The driver, identified as Elizabeth Ranew, and passenger identified as Herman Mcgriff, were arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail without incident.

Charges filed include possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
