City of Chipley Unveils Monument Honoring Chipley Fire Department Alumni on August 12, 2025

Posted on August 13, 2025

The City of Chipley unveiled a new monument honoring all who have served on the Chipley Fire Department past and present on August 12, 2025.

Chief Hunter Aycock stated this monument is more than just a stone, it is a symbol of courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to protecting others. It is meant to tell the story of our firefighters who run towards dangers when others run away, of long nights, difficult calls, brotherhood and tradition that binds this department together.

Today we remember all of our past members and we honor those who continue to serve our community with selflessness and pride. Every name, every memory, and every story behind this monument reminds us why the fire service is a true calling and requires a special individual.

As we dedicate this monument I’d like to say thank you to not only our members here today but all members who have served our community and the families of those who have supported them doing so.

Mayor Andrews recognized the community leaders that were in attendance. She stated this really honors every firefighter that has served past or present, but we look at the service that is a living legacy. When years turn into decades and decades into a lifetime. We honor and recognize two legacies with the department, Mr. Phillip Adams who has served for 52 years and Mr. Kenneth Rustin who has served for 51 years. We appreciate your strong dedication to the City of Chipley. Together they have 103 years of commitment to Chipley. We are grateful that our volunteers are expanding and appreciate you all for your devotion which is the very heartbeat of this department. Thank you for your service and dedication. A hero is someone who has given his/her life to something bigger than ones self. That spirit lives in every name and story that this monument represents. It is found in service to others.
