Construction crews are working to widen a 3.5 mile segment of S.R. 77 through the town of Wausau. The four-lane alignment will follow the same path as the current roadway through the “main street” portion of the town.
In the accompanying graphic, you can see the new S.R. 77 alignment as it moves north through Wausau. No detours, bypasses, or other deviations from the current alignment are being constructed.
Completion of the $56 million effort is estimated for mid-2027, at which time S.R. 77 will feature four continuous travel lanes from the U.S. “Business Highway” 98 intersection in Panama City to north of I-10 in Chipley. FDOT’s multi-year expansion of S.R. 77 will greatly improve hurricane evacuation capabilities along with travel between I-10 and the resort areas of the Gulf coast.
A reminder that the speed limit on S.R. 77 is reduced to 45 mph to accommodate construction activities. Please be alert for construction workers, vehicles, and equipment.
