Department of Transportation Advises Drivers Will Encounter Traffic Disruptions on State Roads in Central Panhandle Over Weekend

Bay County:

  • U.S. 231 Resurfacing from County Road 2301 to North Campflowers Road – Drivers will encounter intermittent daytime and nighttime north and southbound lane closures Sunday, May 18 through Friday, May 23 for paving operations.
  • Gulf Coast Parkway Construction from U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) to Star Avenue – U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) drivers may encounter intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) from 11th Street to Tram Road, and on Star Avenue from north of State Road (S.R.) 22 to Tram Road, beginning Sunday, May 18 through Sunday, May 25. The lane closure is necessary for crews to perform drainage structure, sidewalk, and curb and gutter installation and to allow oversized equipment to access the S.R. 370 (Gulf Coast Parkway) construction site. Advanced warning signs and traffic control devices will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
  • U.S. 98 Widening from Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street – U.S. 98 eastbound traffic, between Hills Road and Nautilus Street, will be shifted north to new, temporary travel lanes beginning Wednesday, May 21 at 8 p.m. The shift is scheduled to be in place by Thursday, May 22 at 6 a.m. Shifting traffic will allow construction crews to complete drainage work in this area. 
  • U.S. 98 Construction from west of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue – Drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures near the Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue (main) gate at Tyndall AFB through July.
  • U.S. 98 (15th Street) Resurfacing from east of the 23rd Street Flyover to Jenks Avenue – Motorists will encounter the following traffic impacts:
    • The U.S. 98 (15th Street) right turn lane onto the Beck Avenue outside merge lane will be closed Monday, May 19 through Sunday, May 25. The lane closure is necessary to reconstruct the 15th street right turn lane and the outside merge lane onto Beck Avenue. Drivers will still be able to access Beck Avenue at the signalized intersection.
    • Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Monday, May 19 through Sunday, May 25 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for sidewalk and signalization activities.

Jackson County:

  • U.S. 90 Safety Project at S.R. 69 (Porter Avenue) Intersection – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for construction activities.
  • U.S. 90 from west of U.S. 231 to west of CSX Overpass – Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Monday, May 19 through Sunday, May 25 for construction activities.
  • U.S. 90 Intersection Improvement at S.R. 73 Intersection – Motorists may encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 25 for construction activities.
  • S.R. 71 Resurfacing from Basswood Road to 5th Avenue – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for construction operations.

Washington County:

  • S.R. 77 Widening from Bay County Line to north of Moss Hill Road – S.R. 77 northbound and southbound drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures beginning Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23 from Moss Hill Road to Daniels Lake Drive. The lane closures are necessary for crews to complete construction activities within the area in preparation for the final traffic configuration. Advanced warning signs, traffic control devices, and traffic flagmen will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
  • S.R. 77 Widening north of Rodgers Road to south of Cane Mill Road – S.R. 77 drivers will encounter intermittent alternating lane closures between Memorial Drive and Mud Hill Road, Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crews will be performing drainage work.
  • U.S. 90 Bridge Replacement over Holmes Creek – Motorists may encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23 for construction activities

All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to pay attention to the reduced speed limit when traveling through the construction area, to watch for construction equipment entering and leaving the roadway, and to use caution when driving through the work zone. Speeding fines double when workers are present.
