Doyce Lavon Windham, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 78 in Samson, Alabama. Born on May 24, 1947, in Geneva County, Alabama, to parents J.W. Windham and Pearlie Mae Spears, both of whom predeceased him, along with his brother James Windham, Doyce grew to be a man of strong character and unwavering commitment to his family and country.
Doyce’s journey through life was marked by his loving marriage to his wife, Bettie Windham, a union that flourished for 58 years. Together, they built a family rooted in love and mutual respect. Doyce was a devoted father to his daughter, Tonya Bunn (Mike) of Daphne, AL, and his son, Tony Windham (Kristin) of Samson, AL. His legacy proliferated through his adored six grandchildren, Zoey Bunn, Madison Simmons (Grant), Katelyn McNalley (Joey), Tori Windham, Jules Windham, and Wyatt Windham, as well as his four great-grandchildren, Deklan, Maybree, Mavi, and Scarlett.
A patriot at heart, Doyce proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before settling into a life that exemplified service and community involvement. His over 50-year membership in the American Legion stood as a testament to his commitment to fellow veterans and his pride in his military service.
Doyce’s love for the outdoors was a defining characteristic of his life. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found peace and joy in nature, and he took great pleasure in working in the yard, creating spaces where his family could gather. Nothing brought more joy to Doyce than spending time with his grandchildren, and he was their constant supporter, often found on the sidelines of their sporting events, cheering them on.
