Eleanor Mae Nixon West, age 78, of Chipley FL passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
She was born on July 2, 1946, in Chipley, Florida to Woodrow and Rosetta (Riley) Nixon. Eleanor is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Billy West; her siblings; Gilford Nixon, Milford Nixon, and Wilma Nixon Richardson. She is survived by her daughter Alison (Aaron) Pitts; grandson, Aiden Pitts; siblings; Millard (Linda) Nixon), Robbie (Shannon) Duren, Gwen (Dwan) Barnes; sister-in-law; Joyce Nixon, Betty Nixon Ball, Sue (Bruce) Collins, Peggy West Meeks, and Helene West. Eleanor also had many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews that she loved dearly.
Eleanor worked at Townsend Building Supply in Chipley for 30 plus years and would then go on to join the Holmes County Health Department before retirement. Upon retirement, she loves spending time with her family, spoiling the little ones, and watching her “programs”. She also had a love for sweets, movies, and staying up late, southern gospel music, beautiful flowers, the color purple, and her country.
Eleanor was often referred to as “Betty” (Betty White) and it was because of her beautiful soul, sweet spirit and witty sense of humor. She certainly brought a sparkle and light to any room she entered and even though our world is a little dimmer today; we know heaven sure is brighter because she’s there.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 12:00P.M. at Grace Assembly in Chipley. The family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to One Positive Place, P.O. Box 203, Lynn Haven, FL 32444 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
