There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and Saturday night across the western Florida panhandle and southeast Alabama then Sunday across the Florida Big Bend and southwest Georgia. The main threats are:
· Strong to locally damaging wind gusts
· A brief tornado or two
· Hail
In addition to the marginal risk for severe thunderstorms this weekend, heavy rainfall with totals of 2-3 inches possible from the western Florida panhandle eastward into the Florida Big Bend and southern Georgia. WPC has outlooked a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall this weekend as well.
Overview:
A low pressure system will make its way into the southeast US this weekend. A front will sag into the tri-state region while a surface low pressure area will move along the front from west to east this weekend then push off the east coast early Monday. A few rounds of showers and thunderstorms, some strong to severe, will develop and move across the area. Depending on where the front sets up this weekend will determine where the potential for severe weather and heavy rainfall will set up. Currently, the front is forecast to reside in southern Georgia with the heavy rainfall threat along and south of the front. The main severe weather threats will be strong to potentially damaging winds followed by a brief tornado.
