Florida Department of Transportation Advises of Traffic Disruptions Over Labor Day Weekend

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in the Central Panhandle area as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

In preparation for the Labor Day holiday weekend, there will be no lane closures or other activities that impede traffic on major state roads beginning at 12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 and ending at 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1.

Bay County:

  • U.S. 98 Construction from west of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue – Drivers may encounter intermittent and alternating lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Saturday, Sept. 6.
  • U.S. 98 Widening from east of Nautilus Street to east of Richard Jackson Boulevard – Drivers will encounter the following construction-related traffic disruptions:
    • U.S. 98 westbound drivers will encounter alternating lane closures, near Alf Coleman Road, Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Thursday, Sept. 4 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be installing drainage structures. 
    • The right turn lane from U.S. 98 westbound to Alf Coleman Road will be closed through Friday, Sept. 5. Crews are installing underground drainage pipes at this location. Drivers may still turn right onto Alf Coleman Road using the right travel lane of U.S. 98 westbound.
  • State Road (S.R.) 390 Bridge Rehabilitation over Mill Bayou – S.R. 390 drivers may experience brief travel delays near the Mill Bayou Bridge Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Saturday, Sept. 6. Crews will be delivering materials needed for the project.
  • U.S. 98 (15th Street) Resurfacing from east of the 23rd Street Flyover to Jenks Avenue – Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 7 for sidewalk and signalization activities. Advanced warning signs and traffic control devices will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
  • S.R. 392A (Hutchison Boulevard) Resurfacing from U.S. 98A to U.S. 98A – Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Thursday, Sept. 4 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for concrete operations.
  • S.R. 370 (Gulf Coast Parkway) Construction from U.S. 98 to Star Avenue – Motorists will encounter the following traffic impacts:
    • New traffic signals on U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) at the new State Road (S.R.) 370 (Gulf Coast Parkway) intersection, and on County Road (C.R.) 2315 (Star Avenue) at the new S.R. 370 (Gulf Coast Parkway) intersection, will be placed into flash mode on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 7 a.m. S.R. 370 (Gulf Coast Parkway) is an active work zone and remains closed to drivers until the conclusion of the flash mode.
    • Drivers may encounter intermittent daytime lane closures near the intersections of S.R. 370 (Gulf Coast Parkway), beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 7. The lane closures are necessary for crews to perform signalization activities in the area.

Jackson County:

  • U.S. 90 from west of U.S. 231 to west of CSX Overpass – Motorists may encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Friday, Sept. 5 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities.
  • S.R. 166 (Caverns Road) Routine Bridge Inspection over Chipola River – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures north of U.S. 90 Tuesday, Sept. 2 for routine bridge inspection.

Holmes County:

  • Howell Williams Road Bridge Replacement over Tenmile Creek – Motorists may encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Thursday, Sept. 4 for construction activities.

Washington County:

  • S.R. 77 Widening north of Rogers Road to south of Cane Mill Road – Beginning Friday, Sept. 5, State Road (S.R. 77) drivers will be shifted west to the new travel lanes between Cane Mill Road and Memorial Drive. This shift will allow crews to reconstruct the existing travel lanes along this section of the roadway. Signage will be in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone. In addition,S.R. 77 drivers will encounter lane closures, between Mud Hill Road and Cane Mill Road, Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Thursday, Sept. 4 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crews will be completing drainage work. Traffic flaggers will be positioned to safely direct drivers through the work zone.
  • S.R. 77 Widening from Bay County Line to north of Moss Hill Road – S.R. 77 northbound and southbound drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 7 at the intersection of Spring Pond Road and C.R. 279 (Moss Hill Road). The lane closures are necessary for crews to complete construction activities within the area. Advanced warning signs, traffic control devices, and traffic flagmen will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
  • S.R. 277 Bridge Rehabilitation over Hard Labor Creek – Motorists will encounter intermittent daytime lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Friday, Sept. 5 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for constriction activities.

All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to pay attention to the reduced speed limit when traveling through the construction area, to watch for construction equipment entering and leaving the roadway, and to use caution when driving through the work zone. Speeding fines double when workers are present.
