Florida department of Transportation Reports Work Continuing in Wausau on State Road 77

Posted on October 16, 2025

Work continues in Wausau on the State Road 77 widening project, between Rogers Road and Cane Mill Road in Washington County.

Ever notice those ponds by new roads? They’re not for fishing, they’re stormwater ponds. When new roads are constructed, rainwater needs somewhere safe to go.

Pictured is a pond constructed as part of the S.R. 77 widening project. The new pond will collect runoff from the road and help filter out pollutants before the water returns to the natural environment. Stormwater ponds also protect vulnerable areas from the potential for flash flooding after torrential rainfalls.

Fun Fact: A single acre of pavement can produce nearly 1 million gallons of stormwater runoff in a year!

Work on the 3.5-mile segment of the S.R. 77 widening project is scheduled for completion in early 2028.
