Florida Social Security offices are moving to a new telephone system on Friday, April 4, 2025. This system uses automation to assist the public with common tasks and questions so that the public can receive service without waiting to speak to a representative.
The new automated phone service is available 24/7, whichallows the public to conduct business with Social Security outside of business hours, on weekends, and federal holidays. Below are the tasks the public can complete automatically:
- Request a benefit verification letter (award notice, proof of income letter)
- Ask for an SSA-1099 (tax purposes)
- Check the status of a claim
- Request replacement Medicare card
- Change of address
- Informational messages
- Payment delivery dates
- Direct Deposit
- COLA
- Taxes
- Average processing times
- Social Security Fairness Act
- Learn about services available online at www.ssa.gov (replacement SSN card, file for benefits, benefit calculators, etc.)
When a person calls, the individual can state what they need to accomplish. For example, “change my address.” The automated system will respond accordingly, and most actions will be completed in less than 10 minutes. This new automated service will help the public save time and fulfill their business needs. Contact Social Security By Phone | SSA.
Social Security is experiencing its lowest staffing levels in 50 years and this system can serve the public quickly for many options. Employees will still be available by phone for changes that cannot be handled automatically.
