Franklin Eston Summerlin, age 85, of Bonifay, passed away peacefully at his home on May 16, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1941, in Geneva, Alabama.
Franklin dedicated much of his life to serving his community through his work. For more than 60 years, he was the meat market manager at the Piggly Wiggly in Bonifay, where he became well known and respected by generations of customers and coworkers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Odessa Summerlin; his wife of 57 years, Glenda Summerlin; his son, Danny Summerlin; and his grandson, Brenton Swindle.
Franklin is survived by his four daughters: Marie Ramer, Melissa Hood, Sheila Harris (Martin), and Sharon Kent; five grandchildren: Ashley Harris (Doug), Brandon Ramer (Tesha), Kyle Hood, Haylee Whitehead (Dustin), and Austin Kent; thirteen great-grandchildren: Braiden, Kaleb, Blake, Addison, Todd, Harper, Christa, Easton, Peyton, Isabella, Harvey, Mattie, and Isaiah.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Gully Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jeffery Amerson officiating and Sims Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow at Bonifay Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, prior to the funeral service.
