Freeze Warnings in Effect for Portions of North & Central Florida

Posted on December 31, 2025

The final day of 2025 will be a chilly one under sunny skies we will see highs in the mid 50s. Winds will start NW and turn West at 5-10 mph.

That will lead to a wide range in temps at midnight tonight… from near 50 at the coast to mid 30s inland. Lows New Year’s morning will be 32-35 inland and 45-50 at the coast.

New Year’s Day will be pretty close to average with sunny skies and highs in the mid 60s.

Expect more clouds and temps near 70 on Friday with a chance of rain Friday night into Saturday. Right now we are only expected .1-.25″ of rain.

A mostly dry, but potent winter cold front will continue southward today and exit into the Florida Straits this afternoon. Northerly to north-northwesterly winds will usher in a much colder and drier airmass to the Sunshine State tonight and Wednesday night as we approach the New Year.
Freeze Warnings have now been issued for portions of North Florida, stretching from interior Northeast Florida and the Suwannee River to the Nature Coast and I-4 corridor.

Cold Weather Advisories go into effect late tonight into mid-Wednesday morning as wind chills (feels-like temperatures) in the 20s and 30s spread south of Lake Okeechobee.
Occasionally gusty north-northwesterly winds and critically low relative humidity values will yield statewide elevated wildfire conditions this afternoon.

High temperatures today will top out in the upper 40s and lower 50s along the I-10 corridor, with the upper 50s to 60s expected across North and Central Florida. Clear skies and post-frontal winds will allow for overnight lows to reach the middle to upper 20s across interior North Florida and the Suwannee River Valley, and the upper 20s to lower 30s for coastal North Florida and along the Nature Coast. Even pockets of sub-freezing temperatures can be expected south of the I-4 corridor and along the spine of the Florida Peninsula.

Hazardous wind chills can be expected for much of the Sunshine State Wednesday morning, with feels-like temperatures in the lower to middle 20s across North Florida, and the upper 20s to lower 30s throughout Central and interior Southwest Florida. Isolated areas with wind chills in the upper teens cannot be ruled out for interior North Florida locations. Temperatures will feel like the lower to middle 30s along the immediate West-Central and East-Central Florida coastlines.

As an area of high pressure begins to re-establish its position of the eastern Gulf, temperatures will gradually be on a warming trend as we welcome 2026. However, high temperatures Wednesday will remain in the middle 50s across North Florida, the upper 50s to lower 60s throughout Central Florida, and the middle to upper 60s across South Florida and the Florida Keys.

Temperatures will dip once again on New Year’s Eve, with overnight lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s across North Florida and the middle to upper 30s through the interior Florida Peninsula. Sub-freezing feels-like temperatures can be expected Thursday morning across pockets of North and interior Central Florida. As winds weaken Wednesday into Thursday, Frost Advisories may be issued throughout the interior Florida Peninsula and west of Lake Okeechobee.

While temperatures will be cold, a combination of occasionally gusty north-northwesterly winds (10 to 20 mph) and critically low relative humidity values (lower 20s to lower 30s) will make for elevated fire weather concerns nearly statewide this afternoon. Cold temperatures through midweek will serve as a limiting factor; however, locally greater wildfire conditions cannot be ruled out for North and West Florida locations experiencing long-term drought and dry vegetation/fuels.
