George Matthew Anderson, 65 of Marianna, Florida Passes on August 13, 2025

Posted on August 19, 2025

Matthew graduated from Marianna High School in 1978, before pursuing an education in culinary arts in Louisiana. It was there that Matthew’s culinary talents in Cajun and Creole dishes excelled as he earned his chef’s license and honed his skills in the busy kitchens of New Orleans at the well known Commander’s Palace and as Sous Chef at Royal Sonesta, as well as Executive Chef at Hollins College, Virginia among his professional achievements.

He was also very proud to assist Luby’s in Houston, Texas on developing new dishes. His talent and creativity flourished in a city known for its rich culinary heritage, but the call of home was never far from his heart.

Upon returning to Marianna, Matthew served as a cook at Jackson Hospital for 14 years where he became a beloved fixture within the hospital community. His dedication to his craft was only matched by his steadfast faith. As a lifelong member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, he lived by the Christian principles of love and service, impacting all he met with his generous spirit. Matthew enjoyed traveling with his family to many foreign countries and when home, he loved going on canoe trips down the Chipola River. He was a member of the Artist Guild of Northwest Florida and was talented in art work and ice carving with a chainsaw.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Sonny, and sister, Ruth Ann.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Brenda; his loving mother, Jo-Ann Anderson; his sister, Rebecca Keith and husband, David, and their children Kelly Keith and Adam Keith (Abby); along with his special aunt, Trudy Wheeler.

A celebration of Life will be 5:00 P.M. Friday, September 5, 2025 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Dr. Bob Ott officiating and Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. Interment will be private in Riverside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
