Harry John Wheeler Jr., 92 of Chipley, Florida Passes on November 6, 2025

Posted on November 11, 2025

Harry John Wheeler Jr., age 92, of Chipley, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on November 6, 2025, at his residence.

Born on October 6, 1933, in Seffner, Florida, Harry was the son of Harry J. Wheeler Sr. and Lyndall Lee Sullivan Wheeler, and was lovingly raised by his grandmother. He was one of six children: Irvin Wheeler (deceased), Lyndall Wheeler (deceased), Marvin Wheeler, Ron Wheeler, and Richard Wheeler.

Harry proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Air Force, where he played a vital role in aircraft operations during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His leadership and Commitment ensured the safety of countless pilots and missions. Though awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action during the Vietnam War, Harry humbly declined the honor out of respect for his fellow servicemen.

After retiring from the Air Force, Harry continued his career with Bellsouth (now AT&T;), where he led the installation of fiber networks throughout Central Florida and later Atlanta—work that helped support the 1996 Olympic Games.

In 2000, Harry and his beloved wife of 35 years, Connie Lynn Wheeler, made their home in Chipley. There, he devoted his time to woodturning, antique cars, and community engagement, often demonstrating his craft at local events and schools to encourage young people to pursue trades and give back to their communities.

Harry was deeply proud of the home and land he and Connie built together, caring for their blueberry patch, fruit trees, and native plants. He was an avid hunter, loved birdwatching, and took joy in preserving the natural beauty of his surroundings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lisa Kay Johnson; and his siblings Irvin Wheeler and Lyndall Wheeler.

Harry is survived by his loving wife, Connie Lynn Wheeler of Chipley; his children, Lawrence Nelson Wheeler of Chipley and Laura George; his brothers Richard, Ron, and Marvin Wheeler; six grandchildren, including Shelby Wheeler; and three great-grandchildren. Those who knew Harry will remember his love for storytelling, his generous spirit, and his gift for conversation—whether with old friends or new faces alike.
