On September 23, 2025, Holmes County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Main Street in Noma in reference to a disturbance.
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victim, who reported that her boyfriend, Kolby Buie, had consumed a bottle of liquor and become intoxicated. The victim stated that Buie became violent, took her phone, struck her, and held an AR-15 rifle to her head while threatening to kill her. She was able to flee from the residence, but Buie remained inside armed with the rifle.
Additional deputies, along with the HCSO SWAT Team, responded to the scene. Deputies made repeated attempts to negotiate with Buie for a peaceful surrender, but those efforts were unsuccessful. Multiple volleys of gas were deployed into the residence, during which deputies could hear Buie moving and yelling inside.
After further tactical measures, the front door of the residence was breached, and canisters of CS and CN gas were deployed. Within minutes, Buie exited the residence and surrendered without further incident. The AR-15 rifle was recovered inside the residence.
Buie was taken into custody and faces the following charges:
Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Battery, Resisting Arrest, Depriving Another of Access to 911
Sheriff John Tate commended the deputies and SWAT members for their professionalism and restraint in safely resolving a dangerous situation.
