On June 3, 2026, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office received a call that seven juveniles had run away from Gateway Academy. Deputies responded immediately and quickly located all seven juveniles, returning them safely to the facility.
While deputies were gathering information for their report, a disturbance broke out inside one of the dormitories. Deputies responded and observed several juveniles actively fighting. During the altercation, one juvenile picked up a chair and used it to break several windows within the facility.
As a result of the incident, one staff member sustained minor injuries. After reviewing surveillance footage and conducting an investigation, deputies arrested three juveniles and charged them with Inciting a Riot, Battery on Staff, and Criminal Mischief.
