On March 31, 2026, Holmes County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a van traveling on Highway 2A. The vehicle refused to stop and accelerated, passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone over double yellow lines.
The pursuit continued northbound as the vehicle ran a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 185 and Highway 2A, continuing north on Highway 185. The vehicle eventually came to a stop at the state line on Highway 185.
The driver, identified as David McCormick from Geneva, Alabama, stated he fled because he became nervous and threw methamphetamine from the vehicle during the pursuit. Deputies were able to locate and recover the discarded methamphetamine.
McCormick was taken into custody and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, tampering with evidence, and possession of methamphetamine.
