On July 22, 2025, Holmes County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a possible vehicle burglary on Highway 90. While en route, a deputy observed a possible suspect vehicle and turned around to initiate a traffic stop to identify the occupants.
As the deputy attempted to catch up, the vehicle turned onto Banfill Avenue and then into a private driveway, where the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The deputy pursued the suspect and was able to take him into custody after a brief chase.
The driver was identified as Maurice Watford, who was found to have active warrants out of Holmes County. At this time, the investigation into the reported vehicle burglary and Watford’s involvement remains ongoing.
