Earlier this evening, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the Hartford Police Department was in pursuit of a vehicle after the driver allegedly rammed one of their officers. The pursuit entered Florida on Highway 171, where a Holmes County Sheriff’s deputy in the area joined the pursuit.
The pursuit continued south before turning east onto Highway 2 and into Jackson County. The pursuit then continued east on Peanut Road at a high rate of speed. As the suspect vehicle approached Highway 231, the driver left the roadway, causing the tires to lose traction. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed into the path of a northbound vehicle on Highway 231 and collided with it.
The driver, 22 year old Vanessa Davis of South Florida, and a juvenile passenger fled on foot but were quickly apprehended by law enforcement.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to investigate the traffic crash, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office transported Davis to the Jackson County Jail.
Davis is charged in Holmes County with:
* Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding
* Reckless Driving
* Driving While License Suspended
* Possession of Methamphetamine
* Possession of Marijuana
* Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
* Child Endangerment
She also faces additional charges in Alabama related to the pursuit.
The juvenile passenger will also face drug-related charges.
