A traffic violation in the Grand Ridge area resulted in a pursuit and multiple charges Monday afternoon, February 9, 2026.
While patrolling in Grand Ridge, a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office observed a black sedan traveling at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was pulled over for a traffic violation; however, the driver failed to stop and continued accelerating. The vehicle ultimately lost control and came to rest after striking a tree. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Deputies made contact with the driver and passenger at the scene. The driver was identified as Charles William Coleman. Throughout the course of the investigation, deputies determined the vehicle had not been properly registered with the State of Florida.
Coleman was taken into custody and charged with:
(1) Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement
(1) Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists that failing to stop for law enforcement puts lives at risk. Drivers are urged to obey traffic laws and ensure vehicles are properly registered before traveling on public roadways.
