Posted on March 5, 2026

A traffic stop attempt by a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy led to the arrest of a Graceville man after deputies discovered marijuana, a firearm and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle.

According to authorities, the incident happened March 3 while a deputy was conducting patrol on Highway 2 just outside of Graceville. The deputy observed a vehicle displaying a paper tag that was not registered with the State of Florida.

When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated away from the area.

The deputy activated emergency lights and siren as the vehicle turned onto Cherry Street and continued a short distance before coming to a stop between two patrol vehicles.

Deputies then made contact with the driver, identified as Christopher Watford Jr., along with a passenger who was also inside the vehicle.

During the investigation, deputies located marijuana on the passenger and additional marijuana inside the vehicle. Authorities say marijuana was found in multiple areas including the center console and the back seat. In total, deputies recovered approximately 9.1 ounces of marijuana.

Investigators also located a loaded firearm underneath the driver’s seat. Deputies additionally discovered drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, including digital scales and plastic baggies.

During the investigation, authorities say Watford admitted the marijuana belonged to him.

Christopher Watford Jr. was arrested and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm while engaged in a criminal offense.

Watford was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
