After nearly two years on the run, a fugitive connected to a major Jackson County drug investigation has been captured.
In 2024, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted a narcotics investigation that led to multiple arrests and federal indictments. One of those individuals was Michael Dontaxious James.
James was charged by the State of Florida with Sale of Fentanyl Pressed Pills (“blue M30s”) and was federally indicted on multiple drug and firearm charges.
While numerous suspects were arrested during a 2024 warrant roundup, James evaded capture and remained a fugitive.
On May 21, 2026, James was located at a residence in Albany, Georgia, and taken into custody without incident by the U.S. Marshals East Regional Fugitive Task Force, Albany Police Department, and Albany-Dougherty Special Investigations Unit.
“We’re proud of the work done alongside our law enforcement partners to bring this individual into custody,” said Sheriff Donnie Edenfield. “This case is a reminder that no matter how long it takes, we will continue pursuing those who traffic dangerous drugs into our communities.”
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working alongside local, state, and federal partners to locate and apprehend individuals involved in dangerous drug activity and violent crime, no matter how long it takes.
