Jackson County, Florida Sheriff’s Office Arrests Gary Powell, Jr. for Felony Firearm, Drug Paraphernalia

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, around 10:45 p.m., Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were patrolling the area of Highway 90 and Inwood Road when they made a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. When deputies made contact with the driver, he stated he only had a learner’s permit, but was 18 years old. The passenger was identified as Gary Powell, Jr.

Deputies determined that Powell was on Florida Inmate Release Status for drug possession and was a convicted felon. The driver then consented to a search of the vehicle. During a pat down of Powell, a glass smoking pipe was located on his person. Then, during a search of his person incident to his arrest, ammunition was located in his pocket. A handgun was also located in the glovebox near where Powell was sitting.

Powell was arrested and is being charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
