On February 2, 2025, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Investigators received a tip that 22-year-old Cottondale resident James Patrick Boutwell, Jr. had uploaded child pornography to a smartphone app. Investigators immediately began investigating the tip and obtained search warrants.
Throughout the investigation, Investigators located a file belonging to Boutwell containing two videos and five photos of child pornography. They also located four videos of adult women performing sexual acts with animals.
On Monday, April 7, 2025, Investigators and FDLE agents located Boutwell and took him into custody. Boutwell confirmed he uploaded the videos and images to various chat rooms.
Boutwell was arrested and is being charged with seven counts of Possession of Child Pornography, Promoting Child Pornography, Possession of Videos Containing Unlawful Sexual Activity Involving Animals, and Unlawful Use of a Two-way Communication Device.
On Tuesday, April 8, Boutwell’s bond was set at $60,000.
This investigation is still ongoing, and more charges are forthcoming.
