At approximately 1:19 AM, a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving carelessly along Highway 90 near Dogwood Street in the city of Marianna.
As the deputy activated his emergency lights, the driver abruptly turned right and took off, leading deputies on a pursuit through several intersections in the Marianna area.
The suspect eventually turned into a driveway on Decatur Street, drove across the lawn and into the backyard, and then crashed into a tree. He jumped from the vehicle and ran westbound on foot. The deputy briefly lost sight of him and requested assistance.
JCSO’s K-9 Team responded and began a track in the direction of the fleeing suspect. The track continued through multiple yards and ultimately led to a vacant home on Russ Street.
The K-9 team made entry and located the suspect hiding in the attic, where Jequantavious Owens was taken into custody without further incident.
A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 77 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 2.7 pounds of synthetic cannabinoids, and a firearm.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office extends appreciation to the Marianna Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol for their assistance.
