On Saturday, May 10, 2025, around 7 a.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a possible drunk driver at a gas station in Malone. Deputies were advised that a woman was asleep behind the wheel of her vehicle at a gas pump. When deputies made contact with the driver, Ranketa Johnson, they smelled alcohol emitting from her breath and saw an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle.
Deputies asked Johnson if she had consumed any alcohol, and she admitted she had. Johnson was asked to perform field sobriety exercises, and she agreed, but was unable to complete them successfully. Johnson was arrested and transported to the Marianna Police Department to give a breath sample. Her first breath sample showed a breath alcohol level of 0.088, and her second sample showed a level of 0.099.
Johnson is being charged with Driving Under the Influence.
