On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, around midnight, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies were conducting proactive patrol on Peanut Road, when they saw a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver was identified as Steve Bennett of Pennsylvania.
When deputies made contact with Bennett, they located a glass smoking pipe in his lap, and Bennett admitted it to be marijuana. Bennett also stated he did not possess a medical marijuana card. Bennett was removed from the vehicle and a pat down search of his person was conducted. Deputies located another glass smoking pipe and a clear plastic baggie in Bennett’s pockets.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, and deputies located multiple baggies of a crystal-like substance, later determined to be both methamphetamine and fentanyl. The total amount of methamphetamine located was four grams, and the total amount of fentanyl was five grams.
Bennett was arrested and is being charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
