James Farris Stewart, 87 of Chipley, Florida went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2026 at Marianna Health and Rehab surrounded by his loving family.
Farris was born on December 2, 1938, in Chipley, Florida to Edward Boy Stewart and Terra Mardra Sowell. A lifelong resident of Washington County, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Farris worked for and retired from the City of Chipley Road Department and also served as the Frozen Food Manager for Big Apple Food Giant. In his free time, Farris enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He had a passion for music and loved singing while playing the guitar, piano, and harmonica. Above all else, he loved sharing the message of his Lord and Savior with others.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Terra Stewart; wife: Mary Grace Stewart; brother: Woodrow Wilson Stewart; sisters: Alice Stewart, Elnora Carter, Jewell Stewart.
He is survived by his daughters: Ann Nicholson (Mark) of Fayetteville, GA, Beth Songer (Joey) of Flowery Branch, GA, Debra Harris (Wayne) of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren: Nick Nicholson (Amber), Dallas Nicholson, Cody Nicholson, Victoria Nicholson, Morgan Nicholson, Christie Hodge, Leigh Ann Songer, Olivia Conde (Emmanuel), Molly Nicholson (Julian), Kimberly Ferrell (Patrick); 16 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be held 2 PM Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Oakie Ridge Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida with Pastor Mark Blaylock and Pastor Shane Obert officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.
The family will receive friends for visitation 1-2 PM Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the church.
