Jerry Thomas Strickland, 74 of Chipley, Florida Passes on June 25, 2026

Jerry Thomas Strickland, born November 2, 1951, in Defuniak Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, in Chipley, Florida.

Jerry grew up in Ebro, Florida and was a proud graduate of the 1971 class of Vernon High School. He met the love of his life, Nina Hayes Strickland in 1972 where he gained a mother-in-law who was one of the most influential women in his life, Marie Hayes. Above all else, Jerry loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband of 53 years to his beloved wife, Nina. Jerry was loyal, hardworking and generous which are qualities he instilled in his boys. Jerry cherished his role as PaPaw and found immense joy in the presence of his grandchildren.

Jerry dedicated much of his professional life to AT&T, from which he retired after a rewarding career. Following his retirement, he continued to embrace his love for the outdoors as a guide for quail hunts at Hard Labor Creek.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Nina. Sons, Jake and his wife Katie, Josh and his wife Desirae, and Jared and his wife Shevaun. Grandchildren, Karson Day, Mallory Nicole, Nathan Strickland and wife Genna, Jayce Strickland, Seth Strickland, AJ Strickland, and Casten Robert. Sister, Barbara Ann Moore. Brother, DeWayne Strickland.

The bonds he formed did not end with blood ties; all his friends were considered family in Jerry’s generous heart.

He is preceded in death by his father, JT Strickland, mother, Fanny Helms Strickland, brothers Edward and JR Strickland, and his beloved mother-in-law Marie Hayes.

Those who knew Jerry remember him best for his remarkable humor and his ability to light up a room with laughter. He had a big heart, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. His impact reached far beyond immediate circles—he made everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved wherever he went.

A visitation will be held to honor Jerry’s life and legacy on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1976 Shiloh Lane, Chipley, FL 32428. A funeral service will follow on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., also at Shiloh Baptist Church.

As we gather to remember Jerry Thomas Strickland, we celebrate a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering kindness. His memory will remain vivid in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who carry his legacy forward. Jerry was a fan of the little man or underdog. He was the most humble person you could meet.
