Josephine Peacock Knight, age 88, of Chipley, Florida passed to her heavenly home on December 31,2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Dover, Florida on April 19, 1936 to Joel and Rosa Cook Peacock, Josephine was the 8th of 9 children. She was affectionately known as “Dean” by her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She attended Turkey Creek School, a “strawberry school”, for all of her academic years until she graduated in 1953.
Upon graduation, she worked in various administrative and retail professions, including Affiliated of Florida in Tampa. She would soon turn her early enjoyment of sewing into her career by becoming a seamstress and successful owner of Sew-N- Sew in Lakeland. After retirement, Josephine moved north with her daughter Teresa and her family to Chipley, Florida to live on “Easy Street”.
Josephine was an avid reader who enjoyed going to church, sewing, gardening and listening to music, especially The Eagles. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who lived an honorable life of hard work and achievement, with a steadfast Christian faith. She was an incredible woman with a strong spirit and great wit, with so much love for her family. Her memory will stay alive in the hearts of her daughter, granddaughters, great grandchildren, and anyone who was blessed to know the wonderful and caring woman she was.
Josephine’s life was a journey of joy, challenges and triumphs, all of which she navigated with grace and dignity. Her unwavering faith and her dedication to her family are the legacies that she leaves behind. Her memory will be cherished and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we honor her life, let us reflect on the love and kindness that she so freely gave, and strive to carry on her legacy in our own lives. As we say goodbye for now, we celebrate a life well lived, a heart well loved, and a soul that will forever be remembered with warmth and admiration.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel and Rosa, her five brothers, Jimmy, J.D., Curtis, Earl, and Milton, along with her two sisters, Mary and Aline.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Teresa Proctor (Randy) of Chipley, Florida, granddaughters, Heather Harris (Mike) of Cottondale, Florida, Meranda Ward (Travis) of Chipley, Florida, great grandchildren, Rylee, Kennedy, and Sadie Josephine, sister Merle Cherry (John) of Chipley, Florida and Tony Kecky (Chrissy) and their son Lane of Alaska and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of life for Josephine will be held on January 25, 2025 at 1 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1976 Shiloh Lane Chipley, Florida. Friends and family will be received for visitation one hour prior at 12:00 PM. Her service will follow with Pastor Tim Brigham officiating and Obert Funeral Home directing.
