Shortly after midnight, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 3000 block of Jefferson Street, where a suspect armed with a hammer had reportedly forced entry and fled the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered a running vehicle with the driver’s door open in a nearby parking lot. As they approached the residence, officers overheard a heated verbal altercation inside the apartment and immediately intervened.
Inside the apartment, officers encountered Wallace standing in the doorway while armed with a hammer. He was quickly detained, while the victim and her male companion were found inside, visibly shaken.
Investigation Findings:
• Wallace and the victim had met approximately three weeks earlier through a social media app.
• The victim had ceased communication with Wallace, prompting him to travel from Georgia to Marianna.
• Upon arrival, Wallace forced entry into the victim’s apartment while she was away and discovered another man’s wallet. He took the wallet in an attempt to identify the individual.
• Wallace then waited inside the apartment for the victim and her companion to return.
• When they arrived, Wallace armed himself with a hammer and confronted them.
• After the victim threatened to call law enforcement, Wallace fled but returned a short time later, forcing entry a second time.
• Inside the apartment, Wallace swung the hammer, causing property damage before officers arrived and took him into custody.
