Maurice Tinkler, age 64, of Headland, Alabama passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2025, at his home. Maurice was born February 1, 1961, in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late James “Hugh” Tinkler and Roberta “Bert” Mildred Bridges Tinkler.
As a youth Maurice was involved in 4-H, FFA and Demolay. He graduated from Holmes County High School in 1979 and served as senior class president.
Maurice had a strong work ethic. As a teenager he worked for local farmers and worked for several years with the Bonifay Piggly Wiggly. Like his father before him, he chose to serve his country and joined the Air National Guard in Dothan, Alabama in 1982. He became a full time civilian federal employee with the Air National Guard as an IT Specialist in Information Security. He retired in 2017 serving over 35 years. He served in various missions and training exercises in the United States and around the world.
Maurice had a love for cars, being outdoors and exploring. He was a big proponent of volunteering and supporting the local community. He was a naturalist and a member of the Wiregrass Master Gardeners. He volunteered with Landmark Park, SEACT and CERT in Enterprise, Alabama. He enjoyed participating in car shows, racing, attending plays and blues music. Maurice was an avid reader of non-fiction and believed learning and education should be a lifetime endeavor. After retirement, he obtained his EMT license and received additional certification in wilderness emergency medical training. One of Maurice’s favorite activities was to get off the beaten path. He loved traversing forest roads with his faithful dog Oskar.
Maurice is survived by his son Kristian Tinkler, grandson Lachlan Tinkler, sisters Greta Tinkler, Anna Kelly, Paris Henderson and many other family members and friends.
In respect for Maurice’s wishes, he will be cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
