Nancy Ann McGonigle passed away on April 1, 2025 in Chipley Florida.
Born on March 6, 1954 in Santa Monica CA, Nancy was the fifth of John and Virginia McGonigle’s fourteen children.
From an early age, Nancy realized that she wanted to become a Sister, a person who shared her love for God with others. She was blessed during her childhood with the support and guidance of Carmen, a woman of strong faith who was the essence of devotion to Nancy and her family. Nancy’s teachers were Sisters at Corpus Christi Elementary School in Pacific Palisades, and she was deeply impressed by their joy and concern for each of their students.
They modeled genuine love and compassion for the needs of others as they lived out their religious vocations, and they inspired Nancy to pursue a similar path, first as a vowed member of the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters, and later in life as an affiliate in the process of making her vowed commitment as a Sister For Christian Community.
Nancy always had a heart for others, and her dream was to be involved in ministries that focused on the needs of the poor and often forgotten members of society. She was constantly trying to improve her fluency in Spanish, and she loved chatting with people in their native language as she believed that mutual understanding and respect were vital to any type of outreach with which she was involved.
Music was another important part of Nancy’s life, and she looked for opportunities to share her delight in song by joining the choir at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Bonifay, FL. Nancy cared for an ailing Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Jess while she was living in Illinois which sparked her passion for the breed, and for years she raised her own Corgis, first in Waukegan, IL, and later in Chipley, FL.
Nancy cherished her Irish heritage and culture, and she always dreamed of visiting Ireland and experiencing the land and people in the country of her ancestors. She had so many interests, including cooking, travel, gardening, and making quilts.
Nancy’s trademark sense of humor and cheerful outlook on life defined her character and made her a strong, independent woman of faith, hope, and love for all of God’s creatures and creations.
She left the world a better place for her brief time with us, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved and cherished her as a companion, friend, and sister in the truest sense of the word.
