According to the latest drought update from the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, we have seen some improvement from recent rainfall, but we are still dealing with long-term drought conditions. Rivers, ponds, lakes, and groundwater levels remain below normal, and dry weather is expected to return over the next couple of weeks.
Jackson County did see a one-category improvement on the U.S. Drought Monitor this week, which is good news, but significant rainfall deficits still remain from the past several months.
Even with the burn ban lifted, residents are strongly encouraged to continue exercising caution with any outdoor burning:
• Monitor weather and wind conditions
• Never leave fires unattended
• Keep water or equipment nearby
• Follow Florida Forest Service guidelines
Conditions can still dry out quickly, especially with warmer temperatures ahead.
