National Weather Service Monitoring Storm Risk, Issues Heat Index Advisory on July 15, 2025

Posted on July 15, 2025

• Heat Advisory in place across our Florida and southern Georgia counties again today.

• Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of Severe Weather today across south-central Georgia down into the Florida Big Bend.

• An area of low pressure is expected to move into the northeastern Gulf on Tuesday with a LOW (30%) chance of developing over the next 7 days and a LOW (10%) chance of developing in the next 48 hours.

Overview:

Oppressive heat sticks around today. High temperatures in the upper 90s combined with high humidity will combine to create apparent temperatures (heat index) at or above 108F in most areas across Florida and southern Georgia again today. As a result, Heat Advisories are in place across our Florida counties along with the southern row of Georgia counties. Additional Heat Advisories are possible Tuesday before more clouds and better rain chances arrive Wednesday and Thursday.

A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, especially along the I-75 corridor in Georgia down into the Florida Big Bend, this afternoon into the evening. As a result, there is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of Severe Weather for the aforementioned areas. Damaging wind gusts are the main concern within any of the stronger storms today, but some small hail cannot be entirely ruled out.

An area of disturbed weather off the East Coast of Florida this morning will mosey its way across the Florida Peninsula later tonight into Tuesday before emerging in the eastern Gulf sometime Tuesday. From there, it is forecast to head mainly west. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has a LOW (30%) chance of tropical development across the northeastern Gulf over the next 7 days and a LOW (10%) chance within the next 48 hours.
