On this date in 2005, the big shift occurred in the forecast for Hurricane Katrina.
The 10 AM advisory on that date showed landfall near Panama City, FL. By 10 PM, landfall was shown near the Louisiana-Mississippi border.
NHC forecaster Lixion Avila proved to be prophetic when including this in the 10 PM discussion:
“KATRINA IS FORECAST TO MOVE DIRECTLY OVER THE WARM LOOP CURRENT OF THE GULF OF MEXICO…WHICH IS LIKE ADDING HIGH OCTANE FUEL TO THE FIRE.”
