Robert Ernest Espinosa of Chipley, Florida, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on January 20, 2026.
Robert was born on September 18, 1933, in Dos Palos, California, to Ernest Espinosa and Margaret Leyva. He became a resident of Washington County in 1988. A man of quiet strength and unwavering integrity, Robert dedicated his life to service. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps before beginning a long and distinguished career in law enforcement, including service with a local police department and later in federal law enforcement.
Robert was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Chipley, Florida. He greatly enjoyed living and traveling around the world and spending time on the golf course. He will be remembered for his steadfast commitment to duty, his devotion to God and family, and his enduring legacy of service. Robert will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Ernest Espinosa and Margaret Leyva; wife: Rachel Campbell Espinosa; and sisters: Bernice Hinojosa and Linda Espinosa.
He is survived by his daughter: Mary Apalategui (Pat) of California; sons: Joseph Espinosa of Fort Myers; Mike Espinosa (Palmira) of California, and Christopher John Espinosa (Elizabeth) of California; 9 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family gratefully acknowledges the Vestiarki Sisters of Jesus who, through years of attentive and kind care, provided steadfast support, comfort, and compassion to Robert.
Memorialization will be by cremation with Obert Funeral Home and Whispering Pines Crematory of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements. Robert will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
