Scott Richard Sumner, Jr., 55 of Hahira, Georgia Passes on November 27, 2025

Scott “Richie” Richard Sumner, Jr., age 55, passed away at his home Thursday, November 27, 2025. He was born May 20, 1970, in Hahira, Georgia.

Richie lived in the panhandle most of his life after moving to Grand Ridge at the age of 6. He attended Grand Ridge School and was a star athlete excelling in both basketball and baseball. He graduated from Grand Ridge School in 1988 and, continued his education at Chipola College in telecommunications.

He worked in agriculture all his life and loved being on the farm. Richie enjoyed all things outdoors, especially hunting. He considered his animals his hobby and loved to cook. He really enjoyed playing and coaching baseball. He was a coach for the Graceville Recreation Team for five years. His sense of humor was a trademark that will not soon be forgotten by his family and friends. He was a loyal and trusted friend to many.

In addition to being the owner operator of Panhandle Roofing, LLC, Richie was also an Insurance Adjuster for the State of Florida and worked with Meherrin Ag, formerly Campbellton Farm Supply.

His family was his greatest treasure. He was fiercely protective of his kids and moved mountains for them. In his later years, he loved being a Poppy.

Richie was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Warren Farris; one sister, Melissa Christine Lewis; one grandson J.W. Veazey; grandparents, Roy & Doris Sumner, and Troy and Inez Warren; as well as his father-in-law Robert E Regan, Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melissa Sumner; four children, Gavin Scott Sumner (Dylan), Haley Nicole Sumner, Christina Morgan Veazey (Justin), and Troy Reviston Sumner; his father, Scott Sumner Sr.; one brother, Bryan Warren Sumner (Cindy); one sister, Baylee Sumner Cothern (Cody); and three grandchildren, Everly, Cami and Dani Veazey; and his mother-in-law, Phillis M. Smith Regan

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM (CST), Monday, December 1, 2025, at Damascus Baptist Church, 5083, Hwy 77, Graceville, Florida 32440 with Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, 2543 Ash Crossing Road, Iron City Georgia, with James and Lipford Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 PM (CST), Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Damascus Baptist Church, 5083, Hwy 77, Graceville, Florida 32440.
