Today’s Featured Recipe- Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Creamy Garlic Sauce

Posted on January 29, 2025

Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Creamy Garlic Sauce is a dish that blends irresistible flavors and textures into one delightful meal. With its crispy, golden Parmesan crust and a rich, velvety garlic sauce, this recipe is a go-to for family dinners or special occasions. Combining simple ingredients like boneless, skinless chicken breasts, grated Parmesan, and fresh garlic, it’s no wonder this dish has become a crowd-pleaser. Whether served alongside roasted vegetables or fluffy rice, this recipe never fails to impress.

The crispy coating and creamy garlic sauce create a perfect balance of textures. The crust delivers a satisfying crunch, while the sauce brings a luxurious richness to every bite. The secret lies in using high-quality ingredients, such as freshly grated Parmesan and heavy cream. Not only does this elevate the dish’s flavor, but it also ensures a professional touch right in your kitchen.

The foundation of this dish is boneless, skinless chicken breasts. These are an excellent choice due to their lean nature and versatility. To create the crispy Parmesan crust, you’ll need a blend of all-purpose flour, grated Parmesan cheese, and seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Each ingredient plays a crucial role in building flavor and ensuring an even, golden coating.

The combination of Parmesan and flour ensures that the crust adheres beautifully to the chicken, creating a perfect texture contrast. By baking the chicken at 400°F (200°C), the crust crisps up nicely while keeping the chicken tender and juicy.

The highlight of this recipe is the creamy garlic sauce. Its simple yet rich composition includes butter, heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. The butter provides a silky base, while heavy cream adds richness. Freshly minced garlic elevates the sauce with its bold, aromatic flavor, making it a standout component of the dish.

Using high-quality dairy products like fresh cream enhances the smoothness of the sauce. Garlic, rich in antioxidants and flavor, not only contributes to the dish’s taste but also provides health benefits.

To achieve perfectly cooked Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Creamy Garlic Sauce, preheating the oven to 400°F (200°C) is essential. Preheating ensures even cooking, which is particularly important when working with coated chicken breasts. An oven that isn’t at the right temperature can result in uneven browning or overcooked chicken. Using an oven thermometer can help ensure accuracy, especially if your oven’s temperature calibration isn’t precise.

Begin by preparing the coating mixture. Combine:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

This blend not only enhances the flavor but also ensures the chicken achieves a crispy, golden exterior. Dip each boneless, skinless chicken breast into the mixture, pressing lightly to coat all sides evenly. For a thicker crust, you can double-coat by repeating the process after an initial layer has been applied.

Arrange the coated chicken breasts on a parchment-lined baking sheet. This prevents sticking and makes cleanup easier. Leave some space between the chicken pieces to allow hot air to circulate, which contributes to an even crispiness. Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure the coating browns evenly on both sides. To check for doneness, use a meat thermometer; the internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).

If you prefer a deeper golden crust, broil the chicken for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking. However, watch closely to avoid burning.

While the chicken bakes, prepare the creamy garlic sauce. In a medium saucepan:

  1. Melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Whisk in 1/4 cup heavy cream, along with 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper.

Continue stirring for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. For an extra touch of flavor, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes or fresh herbs like parsley. If you’re curious about how to craft the perfect sauce, this guide on the science of flavor combinations offers additional insights.

Serve the Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Creamy Garlic Sauce immediately for the best flavor and texture. Drizzle the sauce generously over the chicken, ensuring every bite is coated. Pair the dish with:

  • Roasted vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, or carrots
  • Fluffy rice, quinoa, or mashed potatoes
  • A crisp green salad to balance the richness

For a visually appealing presentation, garnish with fresh parsley or grated Parmesan.

When enjoying Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Creamy Garlic Sauce, it’s important to understand its nutritional profile. Each serving (based on one chicken breast with sauce) provides approximately:

  • Calories: 450-500
  • Protein: 30-35 grams, making it an excellent source of lean protein.
  • Fat: 25-30 grams, primarily from the butter, cream, and Parmesan cheese.
  • Carbohydrates: 8-10 grams, mostly from the flour used in the coating.

This dish is also rich in calcium (thanks to the Parmesan and cream) and provides essential nutrients like vitamin A, phosphorus, and selenium. While it’s a comforting and indulgent option, portion control is key. Pairing this dish with lighter sides like roasted vegetables or a simple salad helps maintain a balanced meal. For those monitoring calorie intake, reducing the amount of butter or opting for low-fat dairy can make the dish slightly lighter.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup butter

Your sauce has green and red items I see, but in your recipe it doesn’t mention those items.

    1. Lisa says:
      February 4, 2025 at 9:05 pm

The green looks like parsley. I don’t know about the red though unless they added some red pepper flakes.

    2. Cheryl says:
      February 4, 2025 at 11:43 pm

My guess is parsley and maybe crushed red pepper.

    3. Susan Hobbs says:
      February 5, 2025 at 4:59 pm

That would most likely be parsley and then the reddish brown color you’re seeing is probably the delicious coating from the chicken 🥰

    4. Janice says:
      February 8, 2025 at 4:50 pm

When reading the directions, it says you can add a pinch of red pepper and fresh parsley to serve

    5. Susan Lake says:
      February 9, 2025 at 1:10 pm

I think that the green is parsley and the red is the crushed red pepper.

I would add a bit of dry white wine along with a pinch or two of Italian seasoning blend, and a small touch of cayenne pepper.

I made this tonight, but very dissapointed in the sauce. Did exactly what the recipe called for and mine was so runny. No taste what soever! Sorry, but the sauce, I will not make again. The chicken part was good.

Just made it. So easy to make and turned out perfectly. I baked mine for a total of 20 min and flipped at 10 min mark.

Served it with rice, green beans, and a nice Pinot Grigio.
